One of Saudi Arabia's most transformative and adaptive areas, AlUla connects the old with the new in the expansive landscapes of never-ending desert.

AlUla offers visitors a taste of everything; from the most modern, luxurious oases of escape, to the indescribable charm of the Old Town, the culturally rich sites of Hegra and the awe-inspiring ancient rock inscriptions, alongside international dining experiences, high octane music festivals, renowned art shows, theatre and musical productions and adventure sports.

And, this brand new race is perhaps going to be the most exciting sports event of the year to take place in the area.

The inaugural AlUla Desert Blaze event has been confirmed to take place later this month on Saturday, August 26. August is commonly recognised as the hottest month of the year, with temperatures in AlUla averaging around 44 degrees Celsius.

With this in mind, it is evident that this event will be an endurance race like no other.

Classed with a difficulty level of 'extremely high', the AlUla Desert Blaze could possibly be the hottest and hardest race the Kingdom has ever seen.

Depending on the level of challenge you're seeking, competitors can choose from four different distances: 5km, 10km, 21km (half marathon) and 42km (full marathon).

As the races take place during the daylight hours, and the peak of the day, there will be a number of refresher stops along the path the combat the heat, and of course professional medical services on hand throughout the race should they be required. Despite this being a competitive challenge, testing endurance and physicality, the health and safety of participators are at the forefront of the event.

The cost of entry starts from SAR50, and with this racers will get entry into the race, a branded t-shirt, a chipped bib for accurate time tracking, and a goodie bag, Of course, when you complete the race you'll get a completion medal.

To celebrate the only is the the very first desert race of its kind in AlUla, the AlUla Desert Blaze also has an impressive pot of prize money ready for the taking. A generous sum of over SAR110,000 (equivalent to US $30,000) will be distributed amongst finishers in first, second and third place the 10km, 21km, and 42km races. The top prize for the marathon distance will be SAR15,000.
